Melbourne's electric folksters Brightly have thought up a novel way of making a music video to go along with the release of their interactive, real-time, twitter powered film clip Preflight Nerves.
Singer Charlie Gleason came to the realization that they couldn't afford to make a proper video he racked his brains on what he could do instead.
Preflight Nerves is a modern-sounding track with cut up guitars, somber yet soaring vocals and a pulsating, scatty beat. It's warm and inviting that undercover.fm takes great pleasure in listening to and so will you.
Charlie explains, "I work as a web designer, and I've always been interested in the relationship between social media and art. The idea that all of these thoughts, feelings, and temporary moments are public and available for anyone to dismantle and dissect is incredibly powerful."
With the help of friends, Charlie did some jiggery-pokery that found tweets containing lyrics from Preflight Nerves. These are animated against a backdrop of films unearthed from public archive videos. The response has been more than Brightly could ever have expected.
"It's incredibly exciting to see people responding to the idea. The realisation that it's live, and that anyone can hijack the song with their own tweets, is pretty compelling. We are thrilled that people are enjoying it," said Charlie.
