They Might Be Giants announce additional shows to their national tour. A third show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel, a second show at Brisbane’s Zoo, and over to Tasmania for their first ever show at Hobart’s Wrestpoint.
Drawing on their substantial back catalogue, their spontaneous live shows are high energy, high volume and constantly evolving. The band that you’ve never seen but have to experience will be starting their tour this April. Undercover.fm knows TMBG is a band that soaks audiences in pure musical ecstasy like a giant tuneful wave.
They Might Be Giants will be performing as part of this years Groovin’ The Moo Festival, along with a raft of top notch bands such as Flume, Tame Impala and The Temper Trap.
Along with their impossibly catchy songs, They Might Be Giants’ unique music videos stood the band apart and blasted the twosome to the summit of the alt rock scene and then on to worldwide success. TMBG are a band you’ve heard but didn’t know it was them. The GRAMMY award-winning ‘Boss Of Me’ was used for American comedy show Malcolm In the Middle for example.
John Linnell – keyboards and accordion - and John Flansburgh – guitar – were schoolmates in Massachusetts but formed the band after moving to Brooklyn, New York. And out of the last 30 years or so TMBG are one of the best bands to come from the cultural hub of the Big Apples’ East Village scene.
“We’re fully aware of the musical worlds both to the left of us and to the right of us - we’ve heard avant gardé music, we’ve heard popular music,” says Flansburgh. “That’s given us the notion that we can be as original as we can be and still make worthwhile songs.”
When playing live the band grows to include Danny Weinkauf on bass, Marty Beller on drums and Dan “Solder” Miller on lead guitar. After so many years Undercover.fm has come to expect an original sound through impressive melodies, bit of comedy and most of all originality.
