Alt-J have announced they will be returning to Australia, fresh from their appearance at Scottish festival T In The Park 2013, for a handful of headlining dates.
Making their third visit to Australia in just 9 months the Mercury prize-winning band’s debut An Awesome Wave went gold on the ARIA charts gaining the 9 spot on the album chart.
Making stops in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, Alt-J is a strong candidate for Splendour In The Grass 2013. The gossip of will-they-won’t-they will be answered awaiting announcement of the full Splendour line up – which is at least a few weeks away. Their most recent trip here was for Laneway and fairing well in 2012’s Hottest 100.
Alt-J’s July three-show jaunt will be their largest national tour ever and the Perth gig is their first time in the giant state of Western Australia.
Despite the fact that many artist haven’t faired well after a Mercury prize win (Gomez, Speech Debelle, Klaxons) keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton is quick to clarify his thoughts. ‘Some people look at some artists that have won it and go, “Oh, where are they now?” But you wouldn’t say that Arctic Monkeys or The xx [or] PJ Harvey have been cursed.’
