Melbourne psychedelic-black metal rockers, The Drones have been gathering a sizeable reputation since 2005 after the Australian Music Prize for the superbly named Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By.
After receiving nominations for numerous nominations and awards throughout 2005 and 2006 - for their edgy, thoughtful and intense album Gala Mill - The Drones have gone from strength to strength.
The release of The Drones latest album I See Seaweed features How To See Through Fog is a prime example of how they’ve come on in their song writing craft. The beguiling track - straining guitars, wistful piano plonks and an all-round sturdy composition - has been stuck in our heads at Undercover.fm.
Front man Gareth Liddiard's renown for writing about the life and times of the Australian experience, but this latest venture draws in much more shared themes, events and emotions. His raw, affecting vocals now bawl an expanded enthusiasm taking into account everything from the human condition to colonialism.
Their rough and ready live shows are hardnosed to say the least, the I See Seaweed tour will see The Drones for the first time in 2 years returning to the live touring circuit.
Joined by indie punksters King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard for all shows except Cairns, where local supports are set to join The Drones.
