Donovan Leitch, one of the leaders of the UK hippy musical movement, was on stage in Austin last night performing at the Central Presbyterian Church.
God's house became Donovan's den as the folk singer performed a 40 minute set spattered with some of his best known hits. The Austin audience roared with applause when Donovan played the first few notes of the classic 'Hurdy Gurdy Man'.
'Mellow Yellow' and 'Catch The Wind' also filled the setlist.
New music has been rare for Donovan in the last 20 years. In 1996, he released Sutras on Rick Rubins American Recordings label. In 2004, he gave us 'Beat Caf??', a album of nearly all original songs produced by John Chelew.
Donovan recently cancelled a UK tour due to ill health but is working on a new album for a spring release.
