Outspoken rapper Ice Cube is developing an inspirational new reality TV series straight from the 'hood.
'Good In The Hood' is being developed for A&E channel in the US. The show plans to find a reformed gang member, drug dealer or other criminal who is looking to turn their life around. Ice Cube is leading work on the show by example, since he himself plucked international success out of his tough South Central upbringing. The Senior Vice President of A&E Rob Sharenow says, "One of the most powerful elements in the show is the personal connection of the two subjects." Since Ice Cube can relate to the issues of prospective subjects for 'Good In The Hood', Sharenow speculates that they, "are more apt to respond to someone who has walked in their shoes".
The rapper and occasional actor was last involved in reality TV series 'Black. White.', where two families explored racism from the other side after being made-up to appear African-American and Caucasian. The series only lasted six episodes and was heavily criticised by the media for its simplistic and highly subjective take on racial/behavioural issues.
