This is the story of a providential jam that became a functioning band featuring some of the greatest Australian musicians (and one that calls Australia home) of all time.
Whilst touring with the Painkillers the legendary drummer and co-founder of iconic Australian bands (The Victims, The Scientists, Beasts Of Bourbon, Hoodoo Gurus and Dubrovniks) one Mr James Baker was invited by the second legend in this story Spencer P Jones (originally from Te Awamutu in N.Z, but not lately and gunslinger for the likes of The Johnnys, The Beasts of Bourbon, The Butcher Shop, Cow Penalty , The Last Gasp, and a million other bands fronted by his goodself) to a jam whilst hitching a lift to Andrew McGee's Empty Room studios where Jones was working on a lil' somethin' solo.
The impromptu collaboration planted the seeds of what was to become "Spencer P Jones and the Nothing Butts". Enter the very same day, none other than Andrew McGees neighbours Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin from another wonder of the west coast " The Drones" to lend a hand and help transform the moment into a fully fledged project. Hoorah for that day and hoorah for the presence of mind in all concerned.
What does this mean for you dear punter? According to the press release it means you will hear "An intense collage of Jones' tales of love, betrayal and emotional turmoil, Liddiard's wailing guitar, Kitschin's rock solid bass and Baker's troglodyte rhythms," all spat out simultaneously in what will make many glorious moments of rock & roll history. I for one can't wait. I'm so excited I just can't hide it, I"m about to lose control and I think I like it.
Spencer P Jones and the Nothing Butts debut album will be released through Shock Records on November 9. Stay tuned for a single and tour announcement very shortly. Woohoo!!!
