Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson have recorded four cover songs in a Minneapolis studio, together for the first time since 2006.
250 copies on 10" vinyl are to be auctioned off later this year in suport of Replacements guitarist from 1987 to 1991, Slim Dunlap, who suffered a stroke earlier this year.
Not joining in the reunion festivities was Replacements drummer Chris Mars. Westerberg has told Rolling Stone "I was not surprised, but I was a little disappointed." Mars was replaced by drummer Peter Anderson and also joining the session was Kevin Bowe (toured with Westerberg solo in 2005) on guitar.
The four songs recorded were Slim Dunlaps " Busted Up," "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from the Broadway musical Gypsy, Gordon Lightfoot's 1965 song "I'm Not Sayin'" and "Lost Highway" by Hank Williams.
Although The Replacements broke up in 1991, Westerberg has stated in response to a question regarding the possibility of a reunion tour or album resulting from the Slim Dunlap project that " It's possible," and wait for it , "After playing with Tommy last week, I was thinking, 'All right, let's crank it up and knock out a record like this.' I'm closer to it now than I was two years ago, let's say that."
Please join me in a prayer to sweet baby Jeebus or your deity of choice for the realisation of Paul Westerbergs above statement. I can't hardly wait!
