There was a sobering counterpoint to Victoria's long weekend music festivals with a death and two stabbings.
All reviews of the inaugural Golden Plains Festival at Meredith's supernatural amphitheatre have been glowing but some of the shine of the event was worn off with reports of a death.A 21-year old medical student from Prahran attending the festival died in his sleep following a heavy evening of drinking. Police are awaiting autopsy results but sources say the man choked on his own vomit as he slept. Paramedics reportedly worked for half an hour to save him but he succumbed to cardiac arrest.
Also during the Labour Day weekend festivities two men were stabbed during a brawl at the Future Music Festival. The dance festival took place at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on the evening of Sunday March 11. Melbourne's Herald-Sun reported that one man was treated for seven stab wounds but the injuries were not life-threatening.
Future Entertainment said in a statement, "We are shocked and saddened that a needless violent incident like this could occur at one of our events," and are working with police investigating the incident.
