Following a heated argument with his estranged wife, hip hop mogul Chris Lighty shot himself outside his N.Y townhouse yesterday.
Lighty who has worked with the likes of 50 Cent, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule and Mariah Carey is believed to have shot himself in the head. Police apparently found Lighty faceup on the basement patio of his townhouse in a pool of blood with a 9-mm. pistol by his side.
Despite being reportedly worth around $30 million, his wife told police that he had been plagued by financial woes and owed the IRS approx $5 million. Lighty had also been plagued by rumours of a fallout with 50 Cent for whom he scored a multi millin dolllar deal with the Glaceau Energy Brand.
Lighty's career accelerated quickly after he founded Violator Management a business that served as record label, marketing group, and multi-media entertainment conglomerate.
Stars have tweeted their shock and sadness at his death;
"In shock," tweeted Sean (Diddy) Combs. "R.I.P. Chris Lighty."
"Rest peacefully Chris Lighty, my prayers go out to family and loved ones! Dear God please have mercy," tweeted Rihanna.
"R.I.P. CHRIS LIGHTY THE MAN THAT SAVED MY LIFE," Bronx rapper Fat Joe posted. "I Would Be Nothing Without YOU!!! My Kids Appreciate YOU God Bless Chris Lighty."
