Redd Kross' first new album in 15 years Researching the Blues is out today!!! In celebration the favourite sons of L.A have released a brand new video for the song " Stay Away From Downtown." Goodie!
Directed by Jeff McDonald and Dave Markey, the video for "Stay Away from Downtown" features a look that Jeff describes as "beat club meets old time kids show Hobo Kelly." Co-starring Jeff's daughter Astrid and her best friend LuLu as the band's "Greek chorus," the video achieves its goal of being "just a fun rock 'n roll trip. A cheap fantasy."
The album Researching the Blues features 10 new songs clocking in at just under 32 minutes. With songs written by Jeff and produced and mixed by Steve, the album is by far the band's favorite record. Steve has said of the album, "It has the most singular artistic vision of any record we've done. It's just 10 really fucking awesome songs that have the ability to move you in many different ways." Reviews for the album have been insanely positive with All Music Guide describing the album thus "Not only is it their best-sounding album yet, totally alive and raw, but it contains some of the hookiest songs and most thrilling performances of their almost-35-year career in rock & roll." Uncut declares the album " a stunner, taut, hyper-melodic songwriting and heavenly harmonies wed to a veritable barrage of fierce hooks and riffs." While the Alternative Press insist that Reasearching the Blues is " like a graduate dissertation on power pop, and should be required listening."
The only people I could imagine being disappointed with this album would be haters of rock & roll, awesome guitars hooks and riffage and those who spit on the best that 20th and 21st centuries of music have had to offer in the way of mind numbing power pop sweetness that maintains a hard edge with rocking guitars.
Go and get yourself some kind of part-ay beverage, don't get comfy cos you are gonna want to jump around some and let the glory of Redd Kross take over your mind and body as you watch " Stay Away From Downtown" from the album " Reasearching The Blues". Woohoo!!!!!!!
