Sydney champions of mood and atmosphere "Winter People" are thrilled to announce the release of their equally moody and atmospheric titled debut album "A Year At Sea".
Since exploding into the spotlight in 2010, Winter People's compositions, including Triple J favourites "Wishingbone" and "Gallons" have seen the band become adored locally and internationally.
Giving weight to the previous statement of adoration are the album contributors that speak for themselves, with recording by Tim Whitten (Augie March, The Go-Betweens), production by Brooklyn extraordinaire Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, Frightened Rabbit) and mixing by Rich Costey (The Shins, Foster The People, Bloc Party). The result is an album packed with mood, texture and emotion.
Leader of the sprawling six piece that contains no less than two violinists and five vocalists, Dylan Baskind, describes the meaning bhind the album title "It represents the end of a long journey through the ocean back onto the land. In symbolic terms such a journey represents the basis of the creative act: to navigate the dark and unknown (the unconscious) and then to cross back over into the definite and solid (the conscious)."
Sounds like a trip that might be worth taking and won't leave your brain permanently damaged. You can start by taking a ride on September 21st when the album is released. Prior and post release "Winter People" will be touring the East Coast to promote the new album. Album plus tour ticket bundles are on sale Wednesday 8th August from venues and usual ticketing outlets. Those who purchase the vinyl album ticket bundle will receive a digital copy of the album on release. Vinyl must be picked up from the merchandise desk at the venue.
