Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe was arrested in Prague on June 28th and charged with manslaughter in connection with a punters death from injuries allegedly sustained at a Lamb of God show in the Czech Republic 2 years ago.
Everyone from Slash to Sebastian Bach have put their two cents in the ring to defend Randy Blythe and in doing so, some have decried the actions of the young man who died 14 days after allegedly being pushed off the stage by Blythe at a gig in Prague's Klub Abaton having sustained injuries to the head.
Prague police charged Blythe with "bodily harm of the fourth degree resulting in [death]". He faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
Enter social networking. David Draiman, frontman for Disturbed tweeted the following; "The kid jumped on stage and started a brawl, and Randy defended himself. That his life was lost in the process is truly unfortunate, but Randy is my friend and he's no murderer." Draiman also used the context of the murder of Pantera/Damageplan guitarist Dimebag Darrell in 2004, in articulating why musicians are cautious of fans that jump on stage and the need to defend themselves. (Dimebag was was assaulted, shot, and murdered on stage by a "fan".) Draimen reiterated "I'm not saying that it's OK, or justified, or anything like that, only that it's an unfortunate/tragic set of circumstances. I know Randy's intention was not to kill the kid."
Scott Ian of Anthrax tweeted similar comments, "Now fans can see firsthand why there's no stage diving anymore. Especially in the post-Darrell world we live in. It's all fun and games until people get murdered, die and get arrested. Randy didn't cause that fan's death. That fan chose his path. People need to take responsibility for their actions no matter what the consequence. Of course it's sad that this person died, it's a tragedy, but it's not Randy's fault."
Both Slash and Sebastian Bach have also tweeted their support.
In latest news Blythe has been released on a bail of 4 million Koruna which is around $192,000 Australian dollars and must stay in the Czech Republic.
