High grade power pop is what you'll get when you "expand your awareness" and listen to one man band 'Le Volume Etait Au Maximum'or LVEAM. Yet another unsung musical hero of our time.
According to his bio, one man band 'Le Volume Était Au Maximum' also answering to the name Johnny Love describes his music thus;
"music no one listens to. It’s way too juvenile for adults. Too intellectual for kids. It’s too serious for confused teenagers, but too full of rage for the cool ones. It’s obviously too wacky for the simple man, but too philosophical for the weirdo. Too futuristic for old-fashioned tastes but too melancholic for kids ahead-of-their-time. And while it seems too psycho for the average man, it enlightens the contemplative one looking for expanded awareness. It’s definitely too logical for the disturbed, but too unsound for the visionary. It’s too pop for the punk rockers, they can’t stand the synthesizers. But it’s too punk for the electro kids, they can’t stand the down-stroked guitars."
Despite what Johhny Love writes, his music is straight up power pop at it's best. Why hasn't it caught on? Probably for the reasons he has given above in his passive/aggresive description. Happens to the best of musicians. I am thrilled and delighted to give you three examples of his work to listen to. Don't be put off buy the vibrant synths, these are all killer tracks.
Incidentally, "Le Volume Etait Au Maximum" has a brand new album out right now titled "Rockeurs Ponk" on his own label PAF! records. Johnny Love writes the songs, plays all the instruments, records and produces eveything himself and the current album released yesterday is another in a line of thirteen albums and 23 E.P's previously released since 1995. What I do know is that "Le Volume Etait Au Maximum" is possibly the best new thing I have heard in a long time and I curse myself for not expanding my awareness about this glorious purveyor of power pop sooner!
