Bobby Womack has unveiled a brand new track "The Bravest Man In The Universe". It's the title track from Womack’s new album of the same title which is set for release on 8th June.
Co-produced by Damon Albarn ( of Blur & Gorillaz fame) and Richard Russell, The Bravest Man In The Universe was recorded at Albarn's Studio 13 in West London and New York's Manhattan Centre between October and December 2011.The record is Bobby Womack’s first album of original material in 18 years, the last was 1994's "Resurrection."
Bobby Womack was born 1944 in Cleveland and raised in a musical family. In the 1960s he started
The Womack Brothers and moved onto play with legendary R&B soul singer Sam Cooke. Under the guidance of Cooke, The Womack Brothers became The Valentinos and created such hits as 'Lookin' For Love' and 'It's All Over Now'. 'It's All Over Now' was covered by The Rolling Stones early in their career and proved to be a huge success hitting #1 in the UK.
Womack went solo in the late 60s and became a massive soul star in his own right, a true peer of Sly Stone, Marvin Gay, Stevie Wonder and Curtis Mayfield. He also wrote material for the likes of Janis Joplin, Wilson Pickett and George Benson and played guitar on records by Sly & The Family Stone, Aretha Franklin and The Box Tops. Womack is also responsible for writing the theme to the classic Blaxploitation movie Across 110th Street.
So... I'm going to give you both to listen to....brand new track Bravest Man In The Universe, followed by my favourite Across 110th Street, just because it's soooooo good.
and Across 110th Street...So good.
