Not for long... Mark Gardener from RIDE will celebrate 20 years since the release of the soundtrack to many a 90's teenage life "Going Blank Again" with a bunch of shows in Australia! Yipeee!
Gardener has been pretty busy since the days of RIDE, having released material as a collaborator in a project called The Animal House, which featured ex Ride band mate Loz Colbert, before exploring the acoustic side of his song writing as a live solo artist and then finally releasing his debut solo album These Beautiful Ghosts in 2005. Along with his various EPs and solo albums since, Gardener has worked as an in demand producer, mixer, film soundtrack artist and collaborator with the likes of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), Dive Index and ex Melbourne psych rockers The Morning After Girls.
What a joy and a pleasure it will be to see Gardener perform again in Australia. The last time he was here is in my memory as one of the greatest gigs I've ever seen. He played an acoustic solo show at The Tote in Melbourne and I literally had difficulty in walking out of the venue due to the shaking of my legs. Even if you are not a RIDE fan it would be well worth you checking out the show, purely for the brilliance of watching a maestro at work.
Gardener and his band will re-engage and re-ignite the songs that made Ride such a potent musical force during the 1990s. As a special treat for Australian fans Gardener will be bringing along as special guests, and as his backing band, US psych rockers Sky Parade featuring ex Brian Jonestown Massacre alumni Tommy Dietrick.
