Recently in a radio interview, John Banks, member for the ACT party in the N.Z Parliment, misinterpreted a question regarding his "relationship" with Megaload founder Kim Dotcom. Cringe!
Gayexpress.com.nz has reported that last Friday on Radio Live, the conversation between John Banks and host Frances Cook was centred around the fact that he had allegedly accepted two cheques worth $25,000 each from Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom as a contribution to Banks’ 2010 Auckland mayoralty campaign. When asked the question by host Frances Cook, "And what about donations to your campaign? Did you have a relationship with Kim Dotcom?” Banks replied “What’s your relationship? This is offensive! He’s a married man, what are you talking about?”, Cook then laughed and replied, “Not a relationship like that ”. After which Banks continued to protest, “I’ve had no relationship with Dotcom – he’s got a wife.” The host Frances Cook did not give up and continued to try and explain " “Not like that, a business relationship”. At which time Banks hung up. Reportedly Cook then phoned back in order to clarify the question and received the following response from Banks.
“Just a minute, just a minute – I have never had a relationship with Dotcom, he is a married man. And I have not been to the SkyCity with the guy. So thanks for your time, thanks for your call.”
He has however enjoyed a helicopter ride to Dotcom's mansion, watched a fireworks display and a meal with Kim and the missus.
