Missy Higgins finally returns to music today with both her brand new single - ‘Unashamed Desire’ - and the announcement of ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle Tour’ for June and July.
Missy has not toured since 2007 and the new single is her first release in five years. It comes off the back of her very private decision to quit music in 2008, previously releasing the statement" I'd had more success than I'd ever dreamt of and somehow it didn't bring the happiness I thought it would, I guess I had a bit of an existential crisis - I thought, how do I become happy? If this doesn’t give me fulfilment, what will? And when you let go of something you’ve always attached to as your identity, what do you do? I’d always been the singer or the musician or the songwriter. And when I quit music, it was terrifying. Who am I without it? It was scary but it was also important to find out.” Now she knows.
Missy has just been in the U.S. as special guest of Gotye. Last week – on the day his single "Somebody That I Used To Know" topped the U.S. charts – Missy joined Gotye on stage in San Francisco to perform Kimbra's vocal part (Kimbra being in Europe to promote her album). The pair also teamed up again for a sold out show in Los Angeles the following night.
"I was so nervous to have to sing that song," said Missy. "It was fun though and a real honour. I was
already really excited to be playing some new songs for the first time at that show so getting to sing with Wally on that day of all days made a good night even better." Higgins is obviously keen to take the stage once more and will do so in Australia on 'The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle Tour’. Special guest on all shows will be fellow Aussie singer songwriter Butterfly Boucher who co-produced Missy's album with the Nashville based Brad Jones. Tickets go on sale Wedenesday May 2.
