Axl's refusal to attend the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction, didn't prevent Slash, Duff McKagan, Gilby Clarke (Izzy Stradlins 1991 replacement) and drummers Steven Adler and Matt Sorum banging out a few Gunners classics with Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy.
The motely crue of ex -GNR members and Kennedy launched into "Mr Brownstone" followed by "Sweet Child O Mine" rounding out the micro set with a grand finale of "Paradise City ". Despite the fact that fans were yelling "Fuck Axl" for most if the ceremony, Axl remained unmentioned by anyone on stage apart from Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong telling the crowd to " Shut up. He [Rose] was the greatest frontman to ever step in front of a microphone." Dizzy Reed and guitarist Izzy Stradlin were absent along with Axl.
Other noticeable and disappointing absences from Rod Stewart of The Faces and Adam Yauch of The Beastie Boys both due to illness and recovery thereof, did not dampen the celebration (even though Mick Hucknall was brought in last minute for vocal duties....(the controversial choice of the Simply Red frontman to front The Faces in Stewarts absence has been disappointing Faces for fans for sometime now).
The Beastie Boys would not play without Adam Yauch. As such, the Roots were joined by Kid Rock and Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes for a medley of Beastie Boys classics, including "Sabotage" and "So What'cha Want."
The Red Hot Chili Peppers took to the stage sans John Frusciante and played a three songs set of "By the Way," "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" and "Give It Away." With not one but three drummers including former members on sticks Jack Irons and Cliff Martinez.
