UK's pantomine glam rockers The Darkness are recording without Justin Hawkins and under a new moniker.
Richie Edwards, Dan Hawkins and Ed Graham have confirmed that they've been very busy in the studio working on new material, despite the fact that they've lost Justin Hawkins to rehab and an apparent "solo career" and will not use The Darkness name. The trio have enlisted bassist Toby MacFarlaine, who is playing in former Blur guitarist Graham Coxon's band, as a replacement for Frankie Poullain. Edwards is tipped to step into the spandex catsuit and assume lead vocals. Dan Hawkins has assumed producing duties as well.
MacFarlaine confirmed his involvement, saying ""A new name is to be announced shortly and then we shall take over the world and rule it with a rubber fist!" This suggests that while they've lost their greasy lizard singer, they'll still have their collective tongues-in-cheeks.
The three original members all posted separate myspace messages of their excitation about the new recordings. Maybe the public, who thumbed their noses at the second Darkness album 'One Way Ticket To Hell... And Back!', will join in this time around.
