I recall an Uncle Toby's advertisement that I mimicked to great advantage in job interviews as teenager. When asked the poxy standard question," If you could sum up in one sentence what your creed in life is, what would you say?" The standard poxy response (that would sign seal and deliver the job into my incapable teenage hands) was, " Don't let the best you have done set the standard for the rest of your life". Thanks Trevor Hendy or was it Kieren Perkins?
Someone needs to show Adele the Uncle Toby's advertisement. After winning 6 Grammys and
performing live for the first time since vocal surgery Adele has announced that she will take a break from music for four or five years to work on her relationship. She is twenty three. Buy the time she is ready for her comeback at age twenty eight, will she still have the goods? Or will she have a come back at all ? According to an interview in US Vogue she wants to "Write a happy record. And be in love and be happy." When asked what she could see her self doing after that, Adele explained with all the wisdom of a twenty three year old " ..I don't know what I'll do. Get married. Have some kids. Plant a nice vegetable patch."
Does she believe that winning 6 Grammys is enough to sustain happiness through, marriage, kids and a
vegetable patch? I hope not. Please Adele, listen to Trevor Hendy "Don't let the best you have done set the standard for the rest of your life" All those things like marriage and kids and vege patches are fine if you want them, but you can have your amazing career too!
News Update 16/02/2012- Adele will not take a 5 year break, more like five days...Adele has responded on her website by saying ""I've a few days off now, and then it's the Brit Awards here at home and then I'm straight into the studio. BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!" . Looks like someone showed her the Uncle Toby's add afterall.....praise be.
