According to Grohl the state of the music industry has got to do with quality rather than a disinterest from music fans. In a converstaion with Billboard Grohl extolled the virtues of the Adele record by saying " If all records were that good the music business would be on fire, but they’re not."
I agree with Grohl. Labels should start thinking about quality over quantity. Not everyone has the time or money to produce something like Adele's album, however with the simple logic of quality over quantity and how it applies to anything worthwhile will benefit fans and labels alike. By investing time, energy and money in to creating one awesome release you can't possibly lose. Not to mention the savings made on administration when dealing with one fantastic release as opposed to 30 mediocre ones. This way of thinking doesn't need to limit the variety of what is available just the quality of it. Greed is the underlying threat to quality in music, it cheapens the game and sets a standard of mediocrity for the masses.
In other commentary Grohl railed against the much flouted idea that Rock n Roll is dying a slow death by stating the obvious fact to anyone that loves rock n roll , “There’s always gonna be rock’n'roll bands, there’s always gonna be kids that love rock’n'roll records, and there will always be rock’n'roll " Grohl also used the Foo Fighters latest tour down under as an example that rock and roll is not about to keel over and die anytime soon. "We just got back from a trip Down Under, we did a tour of Australia and New Zealand where we were pulling 40,000-50,000 people a night, selling out stadiums. To me, that means rock’n'roll is alive and well."
