After more than a decade at the summit of the UK music pyramid, Noel Gallagher and Thom Yorke may be about to begin a verbal slanging match made in heaven.
In the red corner is the hot-headed Mancunian Gallagher, famous for his verbal sprays against myriad targets, some deserving, some less so.In the blue corner is the genteel and literate Oxford native Yorke, famous for his considered protestations against big business and corporate governance.
Gallagher fired the first blow a fortnight ago, when he told the Guardian newspaper, "Who wants to sing the news? No matter how much you sit there twiddling, going, 'We're all doomed', at the end of the day people will always want to hear you play 'Creep'.
"I never went to f***king university. I don't know what a paint brush is - I never went to art school."
Yorke's response? "I did. It taught me to respect other artists."
Whilst the riposte was a soft jab to Gallagher's left-right hook combo, the Oasis songwriter isn't used to getting lip back. We look forward to seeing if and how this contest pans out.
