Morrissey’s libel case against a published article in NME magazine could be heard before a high court jury after suggestions NME portrayed him as a “racist and a blatant hypocrite.”
The 2007 article written by Tim Jonze quoted Morrissey as saying, “England is a memory now,” and "If you walk through Knightsbridge on any bland day of the week you won't hear an English accent.”
Allegedly, he also said, "the higher the influx [of non-British people] into England the more the British identity disappears.”
Former NME Editor Conor McNicholas and NME’s publisher IPC Media are being sued for libel in the case which will hear about Morrissey’s almost two-decade quarrel with the magazine dating back to 1992.
The jury will need to take into account around 250 emails sent in the lead up and aftermath of the interview, between all parties involved.
Providing this case goes to trial, the UK will see its first libel case in two years to be heard before a jury.
