Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has dismissed Sting as "irrelevant", and claimed any solo project would make him "bigger than Elvis", in the latest instalment of his weekly press rant.
Oasis picked up a Brit award last week for Outstanding Contribution to Music, with Gallagher claiming his band "are the only ones around to have picked it up who are still relevant."He went on to say, "The likes of Sting aren't relevant any more. I didn't want to come down here when I was dying."
Meanwhile, Gallagher has also discussed the prospect of releasing a solo album, claiming that if he did, he'd end up being bigger than Elvis. We hope he means in terms of popularity, though the image of a bloated, sequin-clad Noel remains amusing.
"If I was a solo artist I would be the biggest solo artist in the country easy, no messing, within a year," he boasted. "Seriously! I'd be bigger than Elvis. I would!"
But he added that he preferred playing in a band because of the camaraderie and because "it's a better laugh".
