Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz has turned music executive with the launch of his new label Tyrannosaurus Records.
Duritz and Counting Crows are still an ongoing venture. In fact, Counting Crows are midway through recording the next album.Duritz decided to form T-Recs (as it will be known) after discovering two acts Notar and Blacktop Mourning.
"The talent of Notar and Blacktop Mourning just blew me away and I wanted to be a part of their evolution," he said in a statement. "But I know that when you start a label you're responsible for the hopes and dreams of the artists you sign and that's a big deal to me. We're here to create a partnership with our artists, help them make great music and navigate the treacherous waters of the music business. Simple as that."
Chicago based Blacktop Mourning are described as a rock/pop/punk band. The late Ahmet Ertegun called songwriter Max Steger "one of the best guitar players I have ever seen".
Blacktop Mourning will release their album 'No Regret' in May.
Notar is a 26 year old new Yorker. The trained jazz trumpeter made his name with the collaboration The Formula Project.
With the record label, Duritz says "My vision for T-Recs is an intimate boutique label," continues Duritz. "We're in the studio with the bands, talking to them constantly about their careers and their music. We handle everything in-house and we're taking on a very limited number of artists so that each band gets personal attention."
T-Recs isn't the first time Duritz has started a label. In 1997, the founded E Pluribus Unum and signed the acts Joe 90, Gigalo Aunts and Neilson Hubbard. That label was sold to Geffen Records in 2000.
