Led Zeppelin's classic rock song 'Rock and Roll' has been dropped as the theme for the Cadillac television commercials.
General Motors has announced they will bring the 4 year campaign to a halt and investigate a more contemporary advertising direction. The campaign, titled Break Through, was launched at the Super Bowl in 2002 and featured a Led Zeppelin song licensed in a commercial for the first time ever. Lead singer Robert Plant got right behind the campaign, going as far as even visiting the Detroit plant and addressing the staff.
Cadillac had planned to use the song for only 12 months.
'Rock and Roll' came from Led Zeppelin's forth album. The album is tied with Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' as the third biggest selling album of all time in the USA.
