Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland has admitted he left the band because of the ridicule, but now it energises him.
Borland spoke to Music Radar about his cycle of quitting and rejoining the band over the last decade.
He said that in 2001 he had “absolutely had it with people making fun of the band. I felt embarrassed to have my peers write off what I was doing.”
This, coupled with friction between him and frontman Fred Durst, meant that he had to go.
He returned to the band in 2005 to record The Unquestionable Truth but said in the interview that it’s “not a record that I stand behind. Now we can look back at it and say there are some cool things on it, but it's not our best work.”
Now, back with their first album in six year Gold Cobra, he says the band is an underdog.
Though they’re still ridiculed, he says, “What's interesting is, because the deck is stacked against us and we're now the underdogs, I'm interested again in a weird way. Being in the band is a challenge now, whereas before, when we were at our zenith, it was like clubbing baby seals."
