Darren Hayes Marries Male Companion

Former Savage Garden front man Darren Hayes become the latest music celebrity to take advantage of England's new civil rights laws by marrying his boyfriend of two years, Richard Cullen.

Hayes said in a statement on his official website (www.darrenhayes.com), "On June 19th 2006 I married my boyfriend of two years, Richard, in a Civil Partnership ceremony in London."

This is the first time Hayes has publicly answered the question of his sexuality. He was married to four years to his school sweetheart Colby Taylor. Colby and Darren split in 1999 after four years of marriage.

"I feel lucky to live in an era where my relationship can be considered legally legitimate and I commend the UK Government for embracing this very basic Civil Liberty."

Hayes rarely comments on his private life and intends on keeping it that way in the future, saying he wishes to be a "public person with a private life".

He is heading into the studio to record his second solo album, which we can expect to hear sometime next year.
