Amy Winehouse fans have been mourning with their wallets since news of the singer’s death broke on Saturday. Nielsen SoundScan reports that more Amy Winehouse albums have sold in the past week than for the first six months of 2011.
‘Back To Black’ has sold 37,000 units since Saturday in the United States. 36,000 of those were digital.
The previous album ‘Frank’ has sold 7,600 in the past few days. 7,000 were digital.
More than 95% of all Amy Winehouse sales were digital this week but take into account the lack of record stores in the USA and then the amount of stock the limited number of stores would carry.
The sales of ‘Back To Black’ this week were almost equal to February, 2008, two weeks after Amy won 5 Grammy Awards. This week was its biggest week ever for digital sales.
111,000 individual tracks solo this past week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. ‘Rehab’ was the most popular download. It sold 34,000 units. Amy Winehouse has sold 3.5 million downloads in the USA since 2007.
Radio has also added back old Amy Winehouse songs into current rotation. Nielsen BDS reports that airplay for Amy Winehouse increased by 170% on Saturday alone. There have been 4,700 plays of Amy Winehouse songs on US radio so far this year.
