The Estate of Michael Jackson keeps raking in the cash after his ‘Thriller’ jacket sells for $1.8 million at auction.
The red and black leather jacket that he wore in the zombie-fied clip for ‘Thriller’ was bought at auction by Texan commodities trader Milton Verret.
It’s apparently one of two jackets used for the clip, and Verret says he will use it as a fundraising tool for children's charities and a big cat sanctuary that cares for two tigers that Jackson owned.
This caps off a lucrative two years since Jackson’s death. MTV has run the numbers and calculates that his estate earned $72 million from the This Is It film, $57 from a Cirque De Soleil show and between $50 and $100 million from his stake in song rights by artists including Elvis, Bob Dylan and Eminem.
A year after his death it was reported that the estate had accrued a billion dollars from music sales, film and TV licensing, publishing and Jackson’s ongoing recording contract.
Sixteen million Jackson songs have been sold since his death on June 25, 2009.
