Adopted Aussie Leo Sayer has literally lived the lyrics for his hit song ‘The Show Must Go On’ this week. He has created a road trip adventure for his crew to keep his shows on schedule despite the ash cloud covering southern Australia that led to flights all over the country being grounded this week.
The ash cloud from the South American volcano caused havoc for Australian airlines with airports in Melbourne and Adelaide coming to a complete halt and flights across the country being cancelled.
Leo has a show in Port Lincoln, South Australia tonight and made alternate plans to get there.
He put his support act X factor finalist Andrew Lawson and crew on the road from Melbourne to Port Lincoln. The rest of the crew drove through the night from Sydney to Wagga Wagga and hired a twin engine plane to bring the remaining musicians from Wagga Wagga to Port Lincoln.
Leo, who was already in Adelaide for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, drove to Port Lincoln.
In a statement Leo said, “We’ve had a very stressed out couple days here in Port Lincoln, watching the airport drama unfold elsewhere, and having to take some drastic steps to get the boys here. Our show here is totally sold out and I just couldn’t let anyone down. There is such great excitement about the show here and tomorrow we play Whyalla. That’s sold out too, so we really couldn’t re-schedule. The remains of the party will just make it in time for doors opening tonight and the show will be great. Rock on!”
Andrew Lawson added, “We’ve had a horrendous trip. We sat around in airports for a day and a half, ran out of petrol in the car, slept, drove through the night to get here. But I couldn’t let Leo and the fans down could I?“
Leo Sayer is on tour in Australia until November.
