With the music world mourning the death of Andrew Gold, the great singer and songwriter who gave the world the hits ‘Lonely Boy’ and ‘Thank You For Being A Friend’, his daughter Emily Gold wanted to share her thoughts about her father with Undercover readers.
Emily tells Undercover, “There is one memory that sums up the kind of guy my dad was, which my cousin reminded me of, in which he out of the blue handed a homeless man on the street a hundred dollar bill making his day. This was him in a nutshell, totally impulsive and unthinking to the point where we all thought he was a little crazy, and at the same time totally kind, pure, warm-hearted, and loving”.
“Everything he did came from a place of love, his love for his music, his love for laughter, his love for his children. I remember countless nights of the most imaginative and hilarious bedtime stories one has ever heard, fortunately for my sisters and I he was a quite a proficient story teller. I remember my dad being so excited to show us his favorite Bill Murray, Gene Wilder, and Steve Martin movies”.
“I remember him being just as excited about Halloween and Christmas as we were, climbing on the roof Christmas Eve after we were in bed to ring jingle bells, covering the front of the house with cob webs”.
“He was a kid, everything he did, good and bad, to his liveliness and detriment, came out of a desire for that pure, bright, unlimited happiness of a child's mind”.
“To those who have worked with him and to his fans, he was a joy to be around and an extremely talented musician. A Beatle-maniac, a musician, a brother, a son, a UFO-logist, an extreme liberal, a star, a father, a husband, a friend, a great big ball of flaming energy who's flame burnt too bright for his physical being, who's death not only means great loss for all of us but great release and return to purity for my father, great joy, energy, and love for the universe”.
“On behalf of my family, I would like to say thank you to all who have shown support and love, Andrew loved you all very much”.
