Pete Doherty has avoided being charged in conjunction with the death of actor Mark Blanco after the Crown Prosecution Service said there was “insufficient evidence” to charge anybody.
The CPS verdict came through on Thursday, May 12. The BBC reports that Blanco’s family acted “furiously” when they received the news that no one would be prosecuted.
While the initial investigation suggested Blanco jumped deliberately, a coroner ordered the case open again.
It is known that Blanco was involved in a dispute with Doherty, Doherty’s minder Jonny Jeannevol and writer Paul Roundhill at a party before the death in East London in 2006, but all three deny any involvement in the death and none of them will be charged.
The BBC quotes Jenny Hopkins of the CPS as saying “None of the evidence is capable of establishing to the required standard that Mr. Blanco was thrown or pushed from the balcony or that any other individual was present at the time he fell.
“We have met the family of Mr. Blanco today to explain our decision to them and we would like to extend our sympathies to them on their loss.”
