The release of the first Stevie Nicks album in 10 years has resurrected sales for the Fleetwood Mac ‘Rumours’ album.
Nicks ‘In Your Dreams’ is the first album of solo material from Stevie since ‘Trouble In Shangri-La’ from 2001. It is expected to debut in the Top 5 this week. Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 classic ‘Rumours’ will be around the top 20.
‘Rumours’ is one of the biggest selling albums of all-time. It is estimated to have sold around 40 million worldwide.
The album was Fleetwood Mac’s 11th album but second to feature Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, formerly the duo Buckingham Nicks.
‘Rumours’ was made in a drug-fuelled haze and personal break-ups between the members of the band. The McVies, John and Christine, ended their 8-year marriage during the recording. Buckingham and Nicks also ended their relationship and Stevie had a fling with Mick Fleetwood. This part of Fleetwood Mac’s history reads like a soap opera.
The songs from the album reflected the situations. Nicks’ ‘Dreams’ is about a breakup, Buckingham was much more direct in his lyrics when he wrote ‘Go Your Own Way’ and ‘Never Going Back Again’’ while Christine McVie told all about her affair with the lightening guy in ‘You Make Loving Fun’.
The Stevie Nicks ‘In Your Dreams’ album will sell around 17,000 units this week and debut at no.5. Fleetwood Mac ‘Rumours’ has sold around 7000 and should come in at around 20.
