John Walker, one of the founding members of the Walker Brothers, has lost his battle with liver cancer at age 67.
John was born John Maus and adopted the name Walker when he formed the band with Scott Engel (Scott Walker) and Gary Leeds (Gary Walker).
The Walker Brothers had number one hits in the USA with ‘Make It Easy On Yourself’ and ‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine (Anymore)’. A reunion in the 70s lead to another hit with ‘No Regrets’.
Although founded in Los Angeles in 1964, the Walker Brothers relocated to Britain where they achieved their initial success before America.
In 2009, John and Gary published a joint biography – ‘The Walker Brothers: No Regrets – Our Story’.
A statement from a spokesperson for John reads, “Sadly John passed away on Saturday morning Californian time after a six-month battle with liver cancer”.
