Senator Stephen Conroy, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, will officially launch community radio’s new digital service at 3RRR in Melbourne on May 13.
Community stations across Australia in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth have been test-broadcasting continuously on the digital band for the past month.
“Every week, millions of Australians tune into community radio to enjoy information and entertainment that speaks directly to their heart and their community,” Adrian Basso, President of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia said in a statement. “So, after years of lobbying, it is a great moment to witness the first community stations enter the digital radio age. The CBAA looks forward to working with the Federal Government and community radio stations to ensure all community stations are included in any future roll out of digital radio.”
The community digital radio service will be officially declared open for business at 11am on May 13.
