Moving Pictures, best known for their 1982 single ‘What About Me?’, are reuniting for one show in both Sydney and Melbourne to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their juggernaut album ‘Days Of Innocence’.
The band went through a few lineups, but these reformations will include original members Alex Smith, Andy Thompson, Charlie Cole, Garry Frost, Ian Lees and Mark Meyer.
They formed in Sydney in 1980 and first made a name for themselves with their debut single ‘Bustin’ Loose’, but it was ‘What About Me?’ that saw them achieve huge success both in Australia and in the US. It was that single that saw them hold the number one spot on the ARIA Singles Chart for six consecutive weeks and won them the ‘Best Single’ prize at the 1982 Countdown Awards. The song once again appeared at the top of the charts in 2004 when Australian Idol runner up Shannon Noll had a hit with a note-for-note cover of the song.
If you can’t make it to one of the shows this July, you might not have to wait much longer. As singer Alex Smith hinted in a statement, “These shows are going to be a blast! Just to be in the same room again will be crazy enough - we might even get around to making some music.”
“All our lives have moved on and are different now but the thing we had was pretty special,” he continues. “In my dreaming moments I have always still been there. And now I’ll get to hear what we really sounded like! OH MY GOD, I may become a fan”.
