The 70s poems of John Laws have been put to music for a new album by Keith Glass.
Glass has called the project The John Laws Experience.
Laws’ radio fame contributed to him becoming the biggest selling poet in Australia in 1971. His poems were published in the book ‘Love Is An Expensive Way To Die’.
Glass discovered the book in 2006 and noted the not-to-kind reviews it received in its day. He surmised that maybe the words were better suited to lyrics than poems so he went about composing, then recording the music for them.
The match was made – Keith Glass and John Laws.
Glass recruited singer/songwriter Mick Hamilton to help him out. They went back to the 70s to find Laws’ old country albums (yes he was a country singer as well) and then formed the band to record the album.
The John Laws Experience is:
Keith Glass – vocals, guitar, mandolin, harmonica
Mick Hamilton – vocals, guitar and percussion
Paul Gadsby – vocals, bass and guitar effects
John Creech – vocals, drums and percussion
