The Sydney arts festival announces a fascinating line-up of local and international musicians for Vivid Live 2011.
The third year of Sydney’s Vivid Festival looks to have an intriguing set of live music acts, following the efforts of previous guest curators Lou Reed and Brian Eno.
This year it’s Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic of Modular Records’ turn to select the most creative artists going around.
They’ll have US hip-hop hype act Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, chic UK melody-makers Bat For Lashes, US sax legend Sonny Rollins, UK video art hero Chris Cunningham (the man behind legendary Aphex Twin, Bjork and Madonna clips), UK psych-rckers Spiritualized performing their seminal album Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space with strings and brass sections and a gospel choir.
Then there’s psychedelic US kidults show Yo Gabba Gabba, Chicago’s Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Toronto electro masters Azari And III, US synth wizard The Crystal Ark, Belgian remix heroes 2ManyDJs, and US multimedia creator Tom Kuntz with Lucky Dragons.
Vivid Live will also showcase the freshest local talent (heavily Modular-focussed, of course), with Cut Copy, Architecture In Helsinki, Tame Impala and The Avalanches DJs.
There’s plenty more happening in and around the Opera House from May 27 to June 13.
Have a gander at all the events at the Vivid Live site.
