Music from an upcoming Bangles album along with acoustic versions of a couple of their classics are now available on an exclusive EP through the maurice's chain of small town specialty stores.
It's all part of maurice's Small Town Sound campaign was a contest and celebration of women in music in partnership with PlayNetwork and Sonicbids.
Throughout the promotion, the chain of stores engaged smaller communities in music through the contest to find the top female-fronted band with the winner playing at SXSW at the Girls Rock Camp showcase, in-store concerts, and the exclusive release with the Bangles.
The winning artist, the duo Audri & Aaron, are in Austin now at SXSW.
The Bangles released a statement saying, “It's been great to be a part of maurice's ‘Small Town Sound’ and have a chance to discover some of the exciting new female musicians living and playing in towns all across the country. We had fun recording acoustic versions of a couple of our earlier songs and then doing an exclusive ‘maurices’ mix’ of a brand new tune to release on vinyl at the stores. This is The Bangles SXSW debut and we can't wait ─ we're especially looking forward to playing with our winners Audri & Aaron.”
The exclusive vinyl EP, called ‘Sweetheart of the Sun’, includes the new song, ‘Anna Lee (Sweetheart of the Sun)’ on the A-side and the acoustic versions of ‘Hazy Shade of Winter’ and ‘Let It Go’ on the flip.
The EP will be available in maurice's stores starting the week of March 21.
