Poly Styrene, previously of UK punks X-Ray Spex, has revealed that she is battling breast cancer.
The singer, whose real name is Marian Elliot-Said, spoke to London’s Sunday Times Magazine about how she and daughter Celeste have been dealing with her breast cancer diagnosis.
She said, “I've been diagnosed with cancer, which has been a huge shock for both of us. I'm trying to fight it and I'm determined to stay positive. Celeste has done lots of research and she feels I can get better. And I need to get better for her, because I'm all the family she's got.”
Poly Styrene was the frontwoman from late-‘70s punk act X-Ray Spex, best known for the classic single ‘Oh Bondage, Up Yours!’
The band reformed occasionally in the ‘90s, but Poly Styrene herself has released two solo albums and an EP since, both jazzier and more New Age than her first group.
She claims she’ll return to her punk roots with her third album, Generation Indigo, which is due out in March.
The first single, ‘Virtual Boyfriend’, has already been gathering positive reviews.
