Radiohead have surprised us all again today with the announcement that they are releasing their new album 'The King Of Limbs' this Saturday (February 19).
The announcement was made through their official website Radiohead.com, this morning (February 14, Valentines Day, arrrrhh). It is available to order now online at Thekingoflimbs.com.
The Oxford band have chosen not to follow the 'pay-what-you-want' route this time as they did with 2007's 'In Rainbows'.
'The King Of Limbs' will be available from Saturday as a download priced £6 /£9 and a physical release follows on May 9 as a 'newspaper album' priced £30 / £33, full contents listed below.
The 'newspaper album' package will contain 'The King Of Limbs' on CD, two 10-inch vinyl records and artwork sheets. Those who buy the set will also receive the album as a download on Saturday.
The album title refers to an oak tree in Wiltshire's Savernake Forest, thought to be around 1,000 years old. Radiohead recorded part of 'In Rainbows' three miles away from the forest where the tree is located at Tottenham House county manor.
The tree is a pollarded oak, referring to an ancient technique for harvesting timber for fencing and firewood. The phrase also appears in the 23rd chapter of the Qu'ran.
The rumour mill has already started churning with Austin's SXSW Festival the potential live premiere for the album.
