Kirk Hammett reveals that Metallica will go into the studio for “not really 100 percent a Metallica record”.
The lead guitarist for the metal icons told Rolling Stone that the band will head into the studio for two weeks to record something for a new project, but it’s not entirely a new Metallica album.
He said, “We had planned on doing it in March, but we pushed it back to May. I don't want to give too much away, but it's not really 100 percent a Metallica record. It's a recording project, let's put it that way.
“Without getting too deep into it, it's more a recording project than a bona fide Metallica album. Whether or not we can pull it off in just two weeks remains to be seen.”
He remained ambiguous, but the band has finally finished off their mammoth World Magnetic Tour and it has been three years since they released their last album Death Magnetic.
Apart from this “recording project”, Metallica are booked in to perform on the Big 4 Festival in California in April, featuring the Big Four of thrash – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax.
