Author Deborah Santana, the wife of rock legend Carlos Santana, was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr Humanitarian Award in San Rafael overnight.
Deborah was honored by the Marin County Human Rights Commission for her "exceptional contribution" to her charity work for the Milagro Foundation, the charity she founded with her husband in 1998.The Milagro Foundation is a non-profit organization serving children and youth in the areas of health, education and the arts.
In a statement, she said "The deepest meaning and joy in life is to serve people and advocate for the rights of those who are marginalized in society, especially children. I am honored to receive this recognition."
The Santana's are residents of Marin County. More than 50% of the funds raised though the foundation serve their local area.
