In a move that has fans, journos and musicians perplexed, Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has joined his neighbours in complaining about the noise from his local pub.
In a leaked letter Gillespie wrote to the Islington Council, he claimed The Alma was "playing recorded music at an unacceptable volume past 12 o'clock."Gillespie, who once had a hit with 'Loaded' (which opened with a sample saying "We want to get loaded!") claims the noise emanating from the pub reverberates through his house and keeps him and his two children awake.
The Alma, which has applied to the council to extend its license would "disturb the peace of our beautiful street and (attract) noisy, drunk people to our area" if the proposal goes through.
Gillespie still fronts Primal Scream, a band he formed after leaving the Jesus and Mary Chain in 1985. Their last album, 'Riot City Blues' was a return to their uncanny ability to make rock 'n' roll sexy once more.
They have been one of the most influential and chemically influenced British bands in the last 20 years.
