The Sherbet ‘Gimme That Guitar’ Harvey James benefit concert will go ahead as a tribute concert for the guitarist who lost his battle with cancer last Saturday.
Daryl Braithwaite, Garth Porter, Tony Mitchell and Alan Sandow will perform in Sydney with James’ son Gabriel joining the band on behalf of his father.
Joshua James, Harvey’s other son will also perform at the tribute now called ‘A Celebration for Harvey James’.
“This is such a sad time, especially for Harvey's family. We were all hoping that he'd be with us for Gimme That Guitar; sadly it was not to be. Harvey stepped into Sherbet at a critical time, and his stunning talent and infectious personality immediately shone through. After all these years, his wonderful solos still shine. It will never be the same again without Harv. RIP old mate,” the former members of Sherbet said in a statement released today.
Harvey’s famous friends Richard Clapton, Renee Geyer, Ian Moss, Swanee, Dragon, Kevin Borich and Lindsay Wells of Healing Force will also perform at the sold-out show on February 17.
MC for the night will be Libbi Gorr (aka Elle McFeast), who once had Sherbert reform on her ABC TV show.
‘Gimme That Guitar: A Celebration for Harvey James’ will be held at the Factory Theatre in the inner-Sydney suburb of Marrickville on Thursday February 17.
All proceeds from the evening will go to Harvey’s family and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Harvey James died after a six-month battle with lung cancer on January 15, 2011. He was 58.
