Trish Keenan of British dream pop group Broadcast has died of complications from pneumonia at age 42.
The band’s label, Warp Records, announced that the Birmingham-born singer died in hospital after battling pneumonia for two weeks, with some outlets reporting that she was suffering from a strain of the N1H1 flu virus.
Warp’s statement said in part: “Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time. This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly - a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being.”
Broadcast have lost a talented singer, who shaped their moody psychedelic electro-pop sound since their inception in 1995 with her ‘60s Girl Group-influenced voice.
Keenan appeared on their four albums, most recent of which was 2009’s Broadcast and The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age.
