Religious leader The Dalai Lama has sent a message of praise to Queensland Premier Anna Bligh for the work she has been doing during the Queensland flood disaster.
In his letter to the Queensland Premier the Dalai Lama says “I have been saddened to hear in the news about the unprecedented floods in large parts of your state that have caused huge damage to property and created widespread hardship for many people in flood affected areas.”
“At the same time, I have admired your government’s preparedness and ability to respond to people’s needs during this crisis. I hope all those affected by the floods remain safe and find swift relief, that the flood levels will recede quickly and that normal life can soon be restored.”
The Dalai Lama is planning a trip to Australia in June.
Meanwhile, Australian artists have rallied to raise money for the flood victims. Jimmy Barnes will release the Barnes family charity album ‘Flood Light’ in coming weeks. Mushroom founder Michael Gudinski has also announced plans for a ‘Sound Relief 2’ concert soon. The first Sound Relief concert two years ago raised money for the Victorian bushfire victims of 2008. That concert raised $5 million.
