Eskimo Joe and Snowman lead the nominations announced for the forthcoming WAMi Awards.
The WAMi Awards have, over the years, predicted some of the biggest acts to emerge from Western Australia and it's apt to see established stars Eskimo Joe share seven nominations with up-and-comers Snowman.Adventurous hard-rockers Karnivool have picked up six nominations, as have moody country rockers Schvendes. Ornate indie pop act The Panda Band come out with five nominations. West Australia's biggest acts also feature in the nominations, including Bob Evans, End Of Fashion, Birds Of Tokyo, Little Birdy, The Waifs and Downsyde. The Sleepy Jackson are conspicuously absent.
Amongst the industry voted categories, there are the popular vote categories, open to anyone in the world with an internet connection. At the "musicwa" myspace music tragics can vote for their favourite acts. The categories include Most Popular Act (Eskimo Joe, Karnivool, Snowman, The Panda Band), Most Popular Album (Bob Evans, Eskimo Joe, Snowman, The Panda Band) and stacks more.
The winners will be announced at the WAMi Award Ceremony at Beck's Verandah in the Perth Concert Hall on Wednesday February 21. The event is open to the public, tickets going on sale on Friday February 2.
